Today's epistle reading in 1 John 2 is one to keep handy for days when you need encouragement. In a poetic interlude, John reminds his readers of various generations that their sins have been forgiven, that they do in fact know God, and that they share in Christ's victory over evil. Verse 14 sums it up well: "I write to you, young people, because you are strong and the word of God abides in you, and you have overcome the evil one." Whatever discouragement you face today, whether it's from factors as personal as health problems or as general as depressing news about global concerns, remember that these things do not have the final word. Instead, Scripture says you share in Christ's victory over sin, death, and evil. You know the Father and you know the grace and mercy of Christ. If Christ abides in you, you share in his strength and through him, you have and will overcome. May this news fill your heart with hope and joy, today and always. Amen.

Grace and Peace,

Pastor Chris
